Sometimes we give books a break. And when we do? From pretty pyjamas to contemporary culture and social activism to the coolest new aperitif, here’s what we’ve been enjoying of late…

We’re Booking…

Our tickets to Vienna. Opening in November, Wes Anderson’s first ever fine art exhibition is something we absolutely need to see! If you’ve watched any of his films, you’ll know that Anderson’s definitely got his own aesthetic point of view – and the snappily-titled ‘The Spitzmaus Mummy in a Coffin and Other Treasures from the Kunsthistorisches Museum‘ is sure to be nothing short of fascinating. Old Masters, Egyptian mummies, crown jewels, and Greek and Roman treasures are just some of the items on show.

We’re Wearing…

Pyjamas. Specifically the luscious, lovely new collection created by Florence (she of And The Machine) for Liberty. Silky, slinky, patterned and impossibly pretty – the Florence Welch x Liberty collection is made for lounging about in, sunny breakfasts somewhere along the Amalfi Coast and perhaps a cocktail or two come sundown. Kimonos, chemises, French knickers and long, flowing robes – there’s more than a hint of Florence’s eccentric, whimsical, otherworldly style in these pieces. Lounge wear doesn’t get chicer than this.

We’re Bored…

…of Aperol. So we’ve swapped for a Pampelle Spritz. Made with ruby red grapefruit handpicked in Corsica and blended on the banks of the River Charente, this is delicious on its own over ice, with soda or tonic, or even as a ‘French Negroni’ – simply swapping out the Campari for Pampelle. C’est délicieux!

We’re Giving the Finger To…

Transphobia! Activist Charlie Craggs’ first book – To My Trans Sisters – was something of a revelation, and an important, thought-provoking read whatever your gender or sexual orientation. How can you get involved? Watch, participate, make a difference.

We’re Staying At…

Secret Chapters at Koh Samui’s The Library resort. 20 brand new private villas each with its own saltwater pool, of course. The literary-themed resort’s new villas’ breathtaking facilities also include a Jacuzzi apiece, as well as a private pool overlooking Chaweng beach. For book worms, there’s also a library on site with 1,400 titles to peruse – so there’s sure to be something you’ll love to read. For the ultimate luxury experience, book The Writer villa – which has its own outdoor cinema.

We’re Lounging About…

On the most sophisticated sofas. But not only are Calvers + Suvdal‘s sofas, chairs and tables ridiculously covetable, they’re ALSO pretty damn reasonably priced. We want all of them, but particularly the elegant blush pink velvet sofa and the handsome navy velvet chair. And one of those coffee tables too. Their customers apparently say: “I’ve actually never been so excited about a table”. And based on these good looks, we think that’s probably true.

We’re Watching…

…Good Girls. Three suburban mums hold up a grocery store and steal a whole load of cash. What could possibly go wrong? Brand new on Netflix, this stars Mad Men’s Christina Hendrix, plus Retta from Parks and Rec.  We’re also promising to never go to IKEA ever again having watched Amazing Interiors. You have been warned!

We’re Listening To…

Elizabeth Day’s brand new podcast: How To Fail. Already a successful journo and novelist (yep, she’s the author of The Party – our May book), Day has now proved she’s as every bit as talented and articulate out loud as on paper. Launching with mega girl crush Phoebe Waller-Bridge as guest numero uno before moving onto literary heavyweight Sebastian Faulks, while guest number three is Posh & Posher writer and podcaster Dolly Alderton. Future guests include Gina Miller, David Nicholls and Sathnam Sanghera – we can’t wait. Day is an engaging, erudite host, with that rare, old-school journo talent of really getting people to want to open up and share their secrets – and tell the truth about how they’ve failed. Honestly, a breath of fresh air in our humble-bragging, FaceTuned times.

Spritzing Ourselves With…

Who wouldn’t want to be a member of something called the Experimental Perfume Club? Where do we sign up? Well there’s no need to venture down a backstreet in Dalston for these supremely sexy scents – classically trained perfumer Emmanuelle Moeglin’s collection is now available at everyone’s favourite department store, Liberty of London. Start with the Layers 01 Blending Collection: a set of scents (plus pipette and empty vial) allowing you to create your own bespoke perfume – or opt to wear each fragrance individually. Comprised of Sandalwood Musk, Jasmine Osmanthus and Bergamot, you can play about as much as you like to design your perfect bespoke scent – and no one else will be wearing it but YOU. Trust us, you’ll never want to wear off-the-peg perfume ever again. For even more scented magic, book one of the Experimental Perfume Club’s sessions – you won’t regret it.

We’re Visiting…

The Louvre. Because WHO ISN’T OBSESSED with Beyonce and Jay-Z getting all cultural and filming in The Louvre? Are they making their own work of art amidst the masterpieces, or what? Even better, you can now take in a special themed tour at the Paris museum – either guided or solo. Fire up the album and observe classic artworks from a whole new angle. Probably better avec headphones…
